Work set to commence on the transformation of Canberra Brickworks Yarralumla

Following a number of recent approvals, including the Development Approval (DA) being granted for the repurposing of the heritage-listed brick kilns and associated buildings into a world-class commercial and retail destination, construction work is set to commence on the much-anticipated Canberra Brickworks development in the coming weeks.

The revitalised precinct in the heritage core of the site, to be known as the Brickworks, will feature a dynamic mix of office spaces, allied health services, and luxurious wellness facilities, including a gym, day spa, and skin clinic. A curated selection of food and beverage venues will bring the precinct to life, with a bakery, wine bar, cafés and restaurants, all of which will be uniquely housed within the heritage brick kilns and have access to a working garden. The precinct will be centred around a beautifully landscaped piazza complete with deep rooted trees and a water feature.

Established in 1913 and operating until 1976, the Canberra Brickworks produced the iconic “Canberra Red” brick. The Heritage Core Precinct retains six heritage-listed kilns, representing a diverse brickmaking history unmatched anywhere else in Australia or globally.

“This is an incredibly exciting project for DOMA and for Canberra,” said Jure Domazet, Managing Director of DOMA. “Our vision for the Brickworks site is to create a vibrant precinct that honours the site’s rich heritage while offering contemporary spaces for the community to connect, work and relax. We look forward to carefully curating a mix of experiences and venues that will make this a truly special destination for locals and visitors alike.”

The broader Canberra Brickworks development will include 380 new residential dwellings, offering a mix of stand-alone houses, terraces, and apartments. The first stage of the residential development, compromising of free standing homes and terraced townhomes is anticipated to be released to the market in the first quarter of 2026 The project will also see the creation of over 30,000m2 of landscaped parklands, providing enhanced green spaces for residents and visitors.

With a long-standing legacy of delivering world-class hospitality, wellness, and dining experiences, DOMA is committed to creating a landmark destination that seamlessly blends heritage, sustainability, and modern amenity.

On-site works, including civil and infrastructure upgrades across the 16-hectare site, are expected to commence in the coming weeks. The Brickworks Heritage Core precinct is targeting an official opening in mid 2027.

DOMA is now inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from well-established operators keen to lease space within The Brickworks precinct as well as from perspective purchasers of the residential dwellings. Interested parties are encouraged to participate in this exclusive opportunity to be part of Canberra’s most anticipated development.
