The boutique ‘Foothills’ development in Campbell will bring new green space and housing options to one of Canberra’s oldest suburbs.
Plans for the four-hectare site at the base of Mt Ainslie have been lodged with the National Capital Authority (NCA) and released for public comment today.
“An important aspect of the approval we are seeking is to reduce the allowable built form on the site,” DOMA Managing Director, Jure Domazet revealed. “The number of homes on the site has been reduced from an indicative yield of over 600 units proposed by the previous owner, to a more boutique development of approximately 112 apartments and 129 townhouses.
“This enables us to create extensively landscaped grounds, with almost a third of this large block, over a hectare, being available for ‘deep root’ planting.
“The open spaces and site topography have also enabled great opportunities to optimise the natural light to the homes and maximise the views from the elevated site over Canberra and to the Lake. Rather than adding to the high-density apartments currently being developed in the city, we saw this as an opportunity to provide a verdant, landscaped refuge from urban life, while still providing the convenience of urban life.”
The commercial office buildings previously on the site have now been completely demolished. Doma have worked closely with the NCA and the Department of Environment and Energy on its plans to ensure that all environmental and heritage requirements have now been satisfied.
“Foothills will result in a wider range of choice and genuine housing alternatives being available to people hoping to make this inner north suburb home,” DOMA Development Manager, Sam Toole said. “With beautiful architecture and the comfort and amenities provided, it will appeal to existing and prospective residents of this highly regarded suburb nestled between Mount Ainslie and the city.”
Homes at Foothills will enjoy amazing views of Mt Ainslie, Black Mountain and back towards Parliament House. Luxury amenities within the precinct will include a pool, tennis court, gym, cinema, and dining room. DOMA will also use their vast experience in providing 5-star hotel services to create a concierge facility for the future residents.
“The range of home options at Foothills will include one, two and three-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom townhouses, with extensive garaging and storage,” Mr Toole revealed. “This variety of home types means there will be something to suit first home buyers, downsizers and even larger families.”
The Foothills will be marketed by Colliers International.
