In mid-2017, Hunter Development Corporation (HDC) on behalf of the NSW State Government conducted a three-stage tender process to select a preferred developer for a complex and sensitive development at the former and historic ‘Store’ site in Newcastle. The NSW State Government’s selection of Doma Group as the preferred developer for this $200M project, follows on from our successful delivery of projects for the Commonwealth and ACT Government.

Doma Group proposed the design and construction of an integrated development on the site including residential, commercial and retail spaces consistent with the vision set out in the Newcastle Urban Renewal Strategy.

A condition of the sale was that the successful developer was required to deliver an integrated bus interchange on the site, to connect with the Newcastle Light Rail from the transport interchange at Wickham. Upon completion, title over the land on which the bus interchange is constructed will be transferred back into ownership of Transport for NSW (TfNSW).

HDC, through Property NSW, obtained pre-commitments from State Government agencies for approximately 9,400 m² NLA of commercial space on the site for a 10 year term. Doma Group will deliver the base building with Integrated Fitout for occupation late 2020. This component is known as 6 Stewart Ave, Newcastle.

The project is targeting a 5 star NABER Energy Rating, 4 star Water Rating and 5 Star Design and As-Built Greenstar rating.
