Development application approved 

In a design first for Newcastle, DOMA is seeking to develop 42 Honeysuckle Drive into an integrated commercial precinct offering tenants and guests access to luxurious and practical communal spaces.

“Life is increasingly busy for us all,” DOMA Managing Director, Jure Domazet said. “While we all know the benefits of getting away from our screens and desk, time constraints can make it difficult to even manage to leave the office for a meeting, yet alone regular exercise.

“To address this challenge, we have seen an international design movement to provide increased amenity to office workers by utilising the spaces available in other buildings, such as hotels.

“As office buildings usually only operate during business hours, five days a week, have a set number of users and need to maximise tenancies, making a financial argument for including recreational and occasional-use facilities, such as meeting spaces, can be difficult.

“Hotels, by contrast, welcome guests every day who expect to be able to enjoy a meal, workout, or simply relax and unwind.

“As we explore the world to ensure the projects we deliver in Newcastle reflect all the best aspects of modern design, this is a new trend we have identified and are pleased to be introducing at 42 Honeysuckle.”

Under the plans lodged today, 42 Honeysuckle Drive will be reimagined as a mixed-use vertical precinct incorporating DOMA’s award winning Little National hotel brand, a boutique 5,550sqm office building, retail space and car parking.

“The 187-room hotel and office space will be linked via a podium level and tenants will have access to Little National’s facilities including a co-working lounge and library area, end of trip facilities and rooftop bar,” Mr Domazet explained.

“Traditionally, businesses may have utilised public spaces of hotels, but with this design we are formalising and optimising this relationship. We believe in the future it will be increasingly common for hotels to provide more of the co-working spaces that are so highly sought after around the world.”

Newcastle’s Little National will be the third in Australia, following the opening later this year of Little National Sydney.
