Little National Hotel wins ACT Innovation Award at Property Council of Australia gala night

Little National Hotel, an affordable luxury hotel development that breaks the accommodation mould has been recognised at the 2016 ACT Property Council of Australia Innovation and Excellence Awards.

The ACT Innovation Award was presented to Doma Group at the Gala Awards night held at the National Arboretum Canberra on Friday 26th August. The award recognised the innovation of Little National Hotel being a ‘budget luxury’ hotel concept, an emerging category of commercial accommodation and the first of its kind in Australia. Little National Hotel delivered on innovation through its design, construction and sustainability, and for its broad benefit to the industry and community.

Little National Hotel is Doma Group’s fourth commercial accommodation venture in Barton. The hotel was specifically designed to accommodate public and private sector employees travelling to Canberra for work purposes who demanded high quality accommodation within close proximity to Commonwealth functions. The award reflects Doma Group’s knowledge of the commercial accommodation market, which has a strong demand for short term hotel accommodation serving interstate commuters to the Parliamentary Triangle.

Doma Group Managing Director, Jure Domazet said “Rooms are generally priced in the sub $170 per night bracket to match accommodation allowances for Commonwealth non-Senior Executive Staff (SES).

It is also targets the large contingent of interstate workers who attend Parliament House during session including media, lobbyists, support staff and other travellers whose accommodation requirements are driven by convenience and location, rather than the provision of in-house amenities. Our evidence suggests that a large number of these travellers spend very little time in their room due to work commitments”. Said Mr Domazet.

Doma Group’s development team presented the innovative hotel idea to the Commonwealth Tourism and Industry Regional Fund Scheme and were successfully awarded a $250,000 grant towards enhancing the Canberra experience, maintaining and attracting tourism to the city. Since opening in September last year, Doma Hotels General Manager, Patrick Lonergan has been delighted with the unexpected strong demand of weekend occupancy “a large number of Canberrans are enjoying a hotel experience in their own city”.

In addition to the 120 new hotel rooms at Little National Hotel, the development has delivered much needed car parking to the commuters of Barton with a multistorey car park now available under Little National Hotel providing over 500 car spaces.
